Carrying water into the goat pen today, I left the gate open for a second too long and had to corral these goobers out of the chicken coop so they didn’t get into the chicken feed! 🫠🤦🏻‍♀️

They will do anything they can to beeline for the chicken feed if given the opportunity. Unfortunately, it’s SUPER deadly for goats. The high starch feed messes with the pH levels in their rumen and can kill them, and sadly a farmer I follow just lost his goat to it this week. 😭💔🙏🏼

Thankfully, George and Lucy weren’t in there long enough to be a problem today and we all made it out in one piece!

🐶 Oakie is looking for his forever home!

Sadly, my neighbors are heartbroken to have to rehome their sweet Oakie (no fault of his). He’s almost 8 months old, he is up to date on all vaccinations, he is also microchipped and he will come with his crate and any left over food. Someplace he can run and play would be ideal. He is great with cats and other dogs. He also loves car rides and loves tennis balls. 🎾 🚙

Ahhhhhh giant goose egg!!!!!🥚😍🎉

Geese typically only lay in the Spring/Summer and not often. I expected to see eggs in *maybe* March, but wouldn’t have been surprised if it was later. And yet, on Feb 18th we got our first goose egg!!!!😍🎉🙌🏼

Of course they laid it right under the camera so I can’t see who did it, but I’ll definitely be watching more closely in the coming weeks!

Sadly, we don’t have a boy goose, so these aren’t fertilized, so we won’t be hatching any. But now I want one so we can. 😂

Our geese are some of the most amusing animals on the farm, and now they even demand snuggles and to be picked up and placed in the coop at night instead of having to be chased in, but this makes me even more obsessed with them!!!!

20 chicks have hatched. 4 eggs remained, I candled them today and one was definitely bad, 3 were questionable. I went ahead and left those 3 in the incubator and will watch for another day or two, but I don’t have high hopes! That’s okay, 83% success for my first round isn’t bad!

The chicks have moved to the brooder!!

We have 6 cream Legbar day-old roosters for sale now if anyone wants one of these cuties as a blue-egg gene roo for your flock! 😍🥚🩵

Tomorrow is lockdown day for the brooder, which means chicks could hatch anytime this weekend, but expecting them Monday-ish!!!!

That means we had to make sure the brooder was ready to go! We are changing things up a little this season, and will probably make more tweaks along the way. Also going to add a second brooder setup in a tote in a couple weeks because they will quickly outgrow this setup, and I don’t want them overcrowded.

Pray for more hens than roosters, y’all!!!!💕💕💕

The Bachelors are finally flying the coop!! 🖤🖤🖤

We haven’t tried hard at all to sell the bachelors because it’s been winter and no one wanted to add to their flock during snowstorms. But for our second False Spring, I finally put them online and sold them super fast! 🙌🏼

One was delivered today, one will be delivered Friday, and Wahoo Walter will remain here with us!

Walter is going to move up to the OGs, and Gomez and Morticia will move to the Bachelor Pad temporarily til we build our newest coop arriving later this week! Gomez just isn’t dominant enough to survive the bullies up there! 😭 Praying Walter is, and I’ll be monitoring it super closely to be sure. Those girls are jerks lol.

So Friday, we will be cleaning out the bachelor pad and adding a nesting box for Morticia and making the swaps! Can’t wait!!!! 🥰🙌🏼🖤🖤

Our first #AyamCemani egg on the farm!! I had no idea Morticia would start laying this early, everything I’ve read says they could start anywhere from 5-8 months, or even as late as 10-12 months. They are not prolific layers (another reason the breed is so expensive!). Morticia is only 5 months and 2 days old!

So when I saw her this morning clearly displaying nesting behavior, I let her out so she could get to the nesting boxes and she immediately hopped in. Within an hour we had the tiniest long egg and Morticia was singing her egg song!

🍪 Paleo Chocolate Chip Macadamia Cookies 🍪

Dry Ingredients
• 3½ cups blanched almond flour
• 1 tsp sea salt
• 1 tsp baking soda

Wet Ingredients
• 2 large eggs, room temp
• 1 tsp vanilla
• ⅓ cup maple syrup (or honey reduced as noted)
• ½ cup coconut oil, cooled but pourable

Mix-ins (measure with your heart 😉)
• ½–¾ cup chocolate chips
• ¾ cup chopped macadamia nuts (optional)

Method
1. Whisk dry ingredients thoroughly (break up almond flour clumps)
2. Whisk wet ingredients separately
3. Stir wet into dry until just combined
4. Fold in chips & nuts/mix-ins
5. Chill 30–45 minutes
6. Scoop, lightly press tops (they won’t spread much)
7. Bake 8–10 min at 350°F, pull when edges are set but centers look slightly underdone
8. Cool completely before moving (they firm up as they cool)
9. Store in fridge

Disclaimer: lots of people use this method, we always have, but a bunch say it doesn’t work, and sometimes floating eggs are still good. Had one of these floated, I’d have taken the risk and cracked it open to do the real test for ya (smell…😂🫠🙃), but, these are all just fine!🙌🏼

I also won’t sell these, they’ve gone into our carton of misfit eggs in the fridge that are for us! So if I do open one and there’s a problem, I’ll just toss it!

I love one good snow per year, as long as I don’t have anywhere I have to be. This year we got major snow the beginning of December and it took a week for the mud to even start to dry up!

Today has been rainy and gross all day but it just turned to snow. 😭 The goats are hiding inside but the chickens have also invaded their pen. I guess some got caught in the snow and took shelter in the closest place! 😂 Hoping it slows down before it’s time to put the animals to bed!

And I have to say, a muddy snow day on our farm is still better than a million sunny days anywhere else. 💜🥰🙌🏼

There’s always one brave deer (we call her Cletus) who doesn’t care at all that the dogs are at the end of their electric fence barking their heads’ off twenty feet away. 😂🫠

I appreciate hunting season but I’m glad to have our deer back in the pasture again! (I may not feel this way when we have crops there, but for now, I love it). 💜
